I am still working on the conversion of our sheet music back-list to JACKMAN MUSIC EXPRESS downloadable digital sheet music. We have nearly 700 titles up on JackmanMusicExpress.com now with 1,100 to go. My work is dictated by current needs, i.e. Easter and Mother’s Day music.

Our music pieces from the 1970s were typeset using a music typewriter. Beams, bar lines, phrasing, etc., were all drawn in black india ink on to the art boards. Lyrics were typeset on galley proofs by a local printer. Each syllable and hyphen in our songs were cut with a knife and affixed onto our art boards with soft wax.

Now, thirty years later, the type on the old editions has turned black and is unreadable.  In order to use the engravings, we need to scan old printed editions, reconstruct cover art, and assemble everything together with new bar codes into .pdf files for downloading.

Seeing these hundreds of engravings parade before me in such short order paints a vivid graphic of how Jackman Music Corporation has matured. Not only has our technology changed, but our sense of what is interesting and valuable has changed as well.

This afternoon, our best-selling editor Brent Jorgensen delivered the 2008 edition of “Mormon Kids Piano Duets”. It includes all of the Sharing Time songs in fun duet arrangements for children.

The book is already digital and it requires only very little help to make it available both in printed and downloadable editions. After a few days working on the outside graphics, we deliver the book to the press. Actual printing takes fourteen business days—to be delivered March 21. The download edition will be available on JackmanMusicExpress.com by March 10.

Driving our choral publishing program is the need to provide monthly new ideas packet for ChoralClub members; who are ward choir directors and LDS Ward and Stake Music Chairmen. The April packet of the ChoralClub is being assembled today. It includes the following numbers:

Each Life That Touches Ours for Good (#01857) Arranged by Ron Simpson
When Jesus Came to Bountiful (#01788) by Bonnie Murray and Janice Kapp Perry; text both in English and in Spanish.
Ever Holy (#01859   ) SAB by Christine Davis
MEDLEY: How Gentle God’s and Keep the Commandments (#01858) arranged by good friend Darwin Wolford.
