I was nervous about directing the ward choir on Sunday morning; we hadn’t rehearsed for over three weeks while my family was in Mexico and during Father’s Day. We had a pretty good run-through beginning at 8:00 a.m., an half hour before the meeting started. We were able to go over our number, “God of Our Fathers, Living Still” from “Hymnal Plus, Book 3” twice. Many people came up to sing who hadn’t come for the early rehearsal, and with the help of the Spirit, the performance was inspiring!
In our afternoon rehearsal after Church, we pulled out “Pioneer Hymn Medley” by Brent Jorgensen, my “Reverently, Quietly” arrangement, and Mack Wilberg’s “They, the Builders of the Nation”. After going through them all, we decided that we will perform the first two on July 20th. Mack’s arrangement is wonderful. Brent’s is solid ward choir material. We will do “Reverently, Quietly” either as a prelude, or just after the opening prayer.
