Summer is building quite a line up of new music. I am editing a wonderful Christmas cantata right now by Kathleen Holyoak. It will be released about 24 June.
Carole and I were in Nassau, Bahamas on vacation, and happened to meet the branch choir director, Luicito Bazard while we were there. It is so interesting to hear about his experience building a choir. I am convinced that his work is not dissimilar to ours in the States. He says most of the choir members have not been trained to read music. He spends much time teaching the parts by rote, only to have members move away to school, get married, and never return. He needs spiritually powerful music which can be performed easily.
Carole and I have come home, more dedicated to bringing out more accessible music, constructed to the highest quality standards of art and music, which can be performed by the simplest of the Latter-day Saints. We believe it will happen as we both educate and become more attuned spiritually.
It is a great time to be an LDS musician!
