With the Christmas season soon approaching, you may feel a bit overwhelmed with the amount of Christmas music out there. To help you begin your search, here are a few pieces we’ve enjoyed in the past:

A Shepherd’s Witness – cantata – #01098
Soothing Christmas cantata by David Naylor for SATB, narrator, C instrument, and piano accompaniment. The narration begins with a small shepherd bearing personal testimony of the birth of the Savior. This anthem includes traditional arrangements such as “Once in Royal David’s City,” “Meditation on Silent Night” (instrumental only), and “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear.” David Naylor also includes three original arrangements: “This Silent Night,” “Glory,” and “Holy Child.”

One Small Babe – SATB – #00949
A tender Christmas anthem by Lynn S. Lund, arranged for SATB voices, piano accompaniment, and female solo voice (which may be sung by a section of the choir). This arrangement is soothing and angelic while testifying of the Savior: “Mother Mary watched him sleep. Tonight he was her own. Soon he’d leave her loving arms and with his life atone.”

International Christmas Festival – piano duet – #01045
Delightful intermediate piano arrangement for four hands, highlighting three Christmas carols from around the world, including France’s “Bring a Torch, Jeannette, Isabella”; Germany’s “O du frohliche”; and America’s “The Holly and the Ivy.”

Soft Soft – SSATB – #00732
Original Christmas anthem by A. Laurence Lyon, gently witnessing the sacredness of Christ’s birth: “Soft, soft, a silence of love flows from the firmament. Soft, soft a silence of love showers a wond’ring world. Mary prays for the babe, and ponders these things in her heart.” Arranged for mixed chorus (with divided sopranos) and piano accompaniment.

Gesu Bambino – VS (for high, medium, or low voice)
A classical arrangement of the Italian Christmas carol, with English text for vocal solo and piano accompaniment. Appropriate for a Sacrament Meeting or vocal recital.

What Child Is This? – violin solo – #09119
Enchanting arrangement of the popular Christmas carol, arranged by Anthony Adams for early-intermediate violin solo and piano accompaniment.
