A slight change has been made to the Shop here at Jackmanmusic.com—a very exciting change.

In the past, browsing through sheet music categories required continual backtracking. After viewing a product’s details page, the user had to push the back button or return again to the beginning of the category each time. The process was slow and frustrating, even for us, and not at all what we wanted you as the user to experience.

This is why we are so excited to show you our new little feature: the browsing buttons.

When you click on a product in any category, notice two thin arrows pointing left and right above the SKU number and price. Clicking on these buttons will take you directly to the next product in that category (the category highlighted blue on the right “Categories” column).

Be sure to choose your sorting style to create even smoother browsing.

We want your online sheet music experience to be painless, and just as easy (if not more so) than browsing through LDS sheet music at a music store.

Go ahead, try it out and let us know what you think!

Around this time of year, we love being surrounded by anthems celebrating Mother’s Day. Quite appropriately, these hymns tend to be lilting and soft, as a lullaby—just as mothers often sing to her babies. We love this time to celebrate the miracle of motherhood and to acknowledge each mother—her sacrifices and love.

#00187	Mother’s Day Hymn Medley – SAB – by A. Laurence Lyon
This anthem by A. Laurence Lyon has this quality of tenderness and peace. Plus it’s one of our favorites. The anthem combines the gentle text from “I Often Go Walking” and “Mother, I Love You,” both from the LDS Children’s Songbook, to create a warmhearted choral piece for three-part choir and piano. (We just love Laurence Lyon’s warm piano arrangements.) View product page.

David Naylor writes powerful, original text and melody, then combines that with a descant melody of “Love at Home” in the final verse. This particular arrangement is available both for three-part women’s choir as well as we SATB choir, both with piano accompaniment.

In last year’s post we highlighted a handful of other Mother’s Day anthems including:

Many of these you can listen to audio clips and purchase and download a single copy to look through. We are working quickly to make all JMC pieces available for download. Let us know if there’s one particular title you are looking for.

New choral music this week

For Youth:

The subject for the December ChoralClub packet is the Mutual Theme: “Arise and shine forth, that thy light may be a standard for the nations.” (D&C 115:5) We have published several new chorals specific to this theme, and hope that they will be helpful this year for your youth—in Mutual, Sacrament meetings, and Conferences.

For Relief Society birthday observations:

Many of you will be hosting special meetings commemorating the genesis of the Relief Society. Mike Carson has written a wonderful piece for women’s chorus that will be useful with this assignment. It is called “We Have One Another.” I just love the poignant text and the engaging chorus.

For Easter:

Mike has also taken the assignment to create a special arrangement of the classic, “The Holy City” for ward choir. He has completed the assignment beautifully. We envision this number working in connection with your upcoming Easter service.

For Christmas:

We are happy to introduce you to Amy Baugh Hansen. She is a real go-getter on the piano and is a wonderful arranger. She graduated from BYU in piano performance under the tutelage of Dr. Irene Peery. You hear her playing piano on the television series, “The Joseph Smith Papers.”

Her first book is a collection of seven Christmas Carols arranged with a flourish. We call them “Carol Encores.” These pieces are just a little more difficult than the regular fare. They give you something to chew on and are guaranteed to bring an impressive response from your audience.

Writer spotlight

Jackman Music Corporation congratulates Jenny Oaks Baker on her nomination for a Grammy® Award for her recording, “Wish Upon a Star: A Tribute to the Music of Walt Disney” in the Grammy’s “Best-selling Pop Instrumental Album” category. Let’s all root for Jenny to win on February 13!

Jenny’s album “Then Sings My Soul” reached no. 2 on Billboard’s Top-Selling Classical Albums list for the week of 1 May 2010. The printed book for “Then Sings My Soul” came out this week from Jackman Music Corporation. This advanced book, including parts for violin and piano includes all of the fingering and bowing that Jenny used to record the album.

Thursday, December 15, 2011, marks our one day only, annual buy one, get one free sale here at Jackman Music!

After last year’s sale, we evaluated our process and made a few changes:

1) We got rid of the minimum of 10 choral/cantatas. This was just confusing in the purchasing process. Now we’ll ship you the exact amount you order online; we’ll just ultimately charge you for half of them.

2) We’ve also included the new download option on jackmanmusic.com in the sale. Just like regular orders, order two copies to be downloaded, and we will charge you for one. Remember for vocal solos etc., you need two copies for performance—one for the performer, one of the accompanist. This sale is particularly helpful in this regard. We greatly appreciate your honesty in following copyright law, which allows us to continue providing the download option.

Qualifications

Qualifying for the sale:

• Buy 1 title, get the same titlefree. (Put the total amount needed on your order.)
• Download 2 copies of a title, and be charged for only 1.

Customers may order over the phone at 1-800-950-1900 from 8-5 mountain time, through email at orders [at] jackmanmusic.com, or online all day long from jackmanmusic.com/shop-jmc.

Reminders

When placing your orders, order the number of copies you need for performance. (i.e. If your choir has 30 members, orders 30 pieces of music, and we’ll charge you for only 15 copies. If you order one copy, we’ll just ship you one copy. If you want the sale, put at least two copies on your order.)

We review all the orders by hand before charging your card, so your estimated total online will not include the sale total. DON’T WORRY!! As long as you’ve ordered within the qualifications and on the sale day (even if you didn’t know about the sale), you’ll receive the sale discount. We promise. All orders lie under this stipulation.

Things to keep in mind:

• The sale applies to all Jackman Music publications. Music by Janice Kapp Perry, Nancy Lee Oliver, Michael Hicks, or any other publisher do not apply.
• Take special care that you are ordering on our jackmanmusic.com website and not from jackmanmusicexpress.com. Because downloads are charged instantly on Express (this is so customers can order any time of night without us needing to process shipping costs) we have no way of granting the sale price.
• All sales are final.
• Please no walk-ins this day.
• Because of the amount of orders we receive for the sale, we ask for one week to fill any orders that are requested for pick-up.

Remember this sale is one day only, so plan ahead and have your lists ready. We’ve found this as an excellent time for choirs to use leftover budget or to prepare early for next year’s musical numbers.

We are so excited to hear from you and hope this will be a worthwhile experience!

One Small Babe – SATB #00949, by Lynn S. Lund & Shawn M. Stringham.

One Small Babe was first published in 1993 and remains still a favorite for us as a publisher and for choirs around the country.

The fantastic writing team Lynn Lund and Shawn Stringham has created this classic Christmas arrangement with its lilting, gentle melody and poignant text, arranged for SATB and piano accompaniment: “Mother Mary watched him sleep. Tonight he was her own. Soon he’d leave her loving arms and with his life atone.”

We know you will love this tender anthem—a favorite that truly conveys the love for the Savior in any worship service. View detailed product info and purchase your copies.

Is This the One? – SAB #01095, by Michael F. Moody, Penelopy Moody Allen, & Brent Jorgensen.

Brent Jorgensen has arranged a favorite, simple Christmas carol for three-part choir and piano accompaniment, bearing witness that Jesus is indeed the one, the one born in a stable, born to be the Savior. Penelope Moody Allen’s powerful text testifies boldly that Jesus is the Christ, Creator, and King!

Arranged for three-part choir and piano, with optional violin obbligato included within the music. View detailed product info and purchase your copies.

Ever Holy #01859, by Lisandra Brothers, arranged by Christine H. Davis.

Christine Davis is excellent at weaving her musical arrangements closely to the feeling and warmth of the text. “Ever Holy” stands as a superb example—very serene, beautifully portraying the words about Christ and His life and Atonement: “Thus he came here as a baby, condescending it all….I will praise His name forever as my Lord, chosen one.”

This elegant piece will carry your thoughts toward heaven, as well as those who hear it. View detailed product info, listen to an audio preview, and purchase your copies.

Little Bethlehem #01551, arranged by Rob Millett.

An upbeat arrangement of the familiar Christmas carol, O Little Town of Bethlehem, arranged with a bit of a syncopation at the beginning of each verse—creating a refreshing sound and fun carol to perform. Yet upbeat, this carol remains still appropriate for a sacrament meeting setting.

A fresh arrangement on a classic English carol. View detailed product info, listen to an audio preview, and purchase your copies.

Christmas is a Time of Joy #00068, arranged by A. Laurence Lyon.

First published in 1981, this magnificent Christmas medley continues to be a favorite in our Jackman Music catalog.

Laurence Lyon has arranged this joyous Christmas anthem, combining words and music from “Joy to the World,” “Christmas Night,” “Far, Far Away on Judea’s Plain,” “With Wondering Awe,” and “Oh, Come All Ye Faithful,” into a perfect opening number for any Christmas performance or fireside.

Congregation joins the choir for the final verse of “Oh, Come All Ye Faithful” with choir voices expanding to seven-parts for the final chord. View detailed product info and purchase your copies.

This morning during some road work near our office on 1100 North and 1200 West in Orem, UT, a steamroller fell into a sink hole, damaging sewage lines and causing fear of possible gas line damage.

Unfortunately for us, that meant evacuation of the building. (You may have noticed if you tried to to call in today.) We hope to be allowed back in within a day or so.

But, never fear! You can still place orders online. Plus, if you are really pressed for time, try our download option on many of our sheet music titles, either here at Shop JMC or at Jackmanmusicexpress.com.

Did you know that Jackmanmusic.com is now adding the option for you to choose your delivery method? You may either choose to have your printed sheet music mailed to your door or a downloaded digital copy (PDF) sent to your email, with no added shipping costs. All from one site.

In the past, the only way to receive a downloaded copy was through our special download site Jackmanmusicexpress.com (which will remain running for the time being). But, with the desire to make your experience of ordering music as swift and painless as possible, we decided to combine our sites.

Our team is working our hardest to provide each sheet music title with the new download option (including those currently out of print).

If you have any questions regarding downloads, available titles, or copyright law, please give us a call 1-800-950-1900, M-F 9:00-5:00 MST, or email us at info@jackmanmusic.com.

Note: The federal copyright law remains in force for both printed sheet music as well as downloaded copies. The download option is given as a convenience. With downloading music, you purchase the right to make the amount of copies that you need for your purpose, and then sign each piece, assuring that you have paid for each copy printed. View our copyright FAQ page.
