Easter falls on April 1st this year—right on General Conference. Whenever your group chooses to perform, how grateful we are to sing in honor of the living Christ, our resurrected Lord. Here are truly powerful Easter anthems for choir and organ.

Behold the Wounds in Jesus’ Hands – SATB by David Naylor & John Pearson – #00595

This majestic best-selling Easter anthem is wonderful for ward choir or even in an Easter fireside, with  optional orchestration available. I cannot praise enough the poignant, stirring text by John V. Pearson:

“Tho’ bruised and battered as we stray His guiding hands caress, He washes and anoints with oil and in His arms we rest.”

Did You See Him in the Garden? – SATB and piano by Shawn M. Stringham & Lynn S. Lund – #00428

I am touched by this original piece by Shawn Stringham and Lynn Lund, recounting the final days and glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ:

“Did you see him in his glory when the stone was rolled away? Did you feel the hope of all men when his ransomed life was paid? Will you know him when you see him once again on heav’nly thrones? Will he say to you in pure love: ‘Come to me, thou art mine own.'”

Easter Light – SATB and piano with words and music by Stephen Jones – #01872

Stephen Jones’ gentle Easter anthem describes the purifying light that comes through Jesus Christ, leading us to Him. I love the tight voicing and melody. I can even see this being perfect for a small quartet musical number.

Easter Opener (Oh, Come unto the Lord) – Mixed chorus and piano by Kristen Allred – #01032

For a more up-tempo Easter piece, Kristen Allred’s youthful Easter opener is bright and glorious, proclaiming, “Alleluia, glory to God! He has broken the bands of death.”

God Did Provide Himself a Lamb – SATB with text by Rodney Turner & music by Janice Kapp Perry, arranged by Brent Jorgensen – #01244

We were deeply moved by Rodney Turner’s sacred text in his original Easter arrangement. The beautiful meter only emphasizes the power of these words:

“God did provide Himself a lamb to sacrifice, and pay sin’s price. For Him there was no waiting ram in thicket by, no angel nigh, to spare the Son He sent to die…. Then what of woes that come my way as passing years bring trials and tears? They are but shadows of clay that fade and flee and I shall see beyond them all that’s heavenly.”

Easter Postludes – Intermediate organ arrangements by James C. Kasen – #00652

Here are seven intermediate organ arrangements by James Kasen to extend the worshipping beyond the benediction. I can see these arrangements being used for years and years, as postlude and as possible musical numbers.
